In episode 7 of the Burnt Pancakes podcast, I sit down with Mary Hendricks, of The Very Mary Life, to chat about motherhood. Mary is a relatable and down-to-earth mother who opens up about her experiences as a mom. In our momversation, we cover a wide range of topics, including the challenges of having a baby turn 1, how to know if you are done having kids, embracing the current stage of motherhood we are in, why motherhood sometimes feels lonely, and how to find ourselves in motherhood.
One of the topics that emerges in the conversation is the idea of embracing the present moment. As Mary and I discuss our experiences with motherhood, we both realize that each stage is special and carries it’s own firsts.
Another theme that comes up in the conversation is the idea of finding ourselves in motherhood. We both agreed that motherhood can sometimes feel all-consuming, and how it can be challenging to maintain a sense of identity outside of our roles as mothers. Mary offers some great insights on how to find balance and maintain a sense of self, even in the midst of the demands of motherhood.
Mary and I share about the loneliness that can sometimes accompany motherhood. We both believe in the importance of mom friends but how it is also a struggle with the busy lives we juggle. Relying on support, asking for help and finding a new balance is key.
